Us Gay Adoption Numbers Explode As Homophobes Lose Their Battles

Whilst there may be many who think that gay couples adopting children will cause the poor child to turn into an alien unable to live a normal life, it appears us gay lot are a stubborn bunch with a massive increase in adoption numbers of 11% between 2000 and 2009 in the US according to new statistics by Gary Gates, a demographer at the Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Still met with fierce opposition by many religious groups, the increase in numbers can be attributed in some part to one rather powerful man named Barack Obama, who has been an outspoken supporter of allowing gay couples to adopt, the fact that organisation and law-makers are finding it hard to fight against when there are over 110,000 children looking to be adopted in the US alongside growing support for the LGBT community is growing in the UK.

Currently now only illegal in Mississippi and Utah (both ban unmarried, cohabiting couple from adoption) there are still many cases of gay couples having to adopt separately to qualify, but with numbers increasing steadily it looks like gay adoption is here to stay, especially with organizations like the American Civil Liberties Union committed to fighting any discrimination in the courts of law as they did in early 2011 to overturn a voter approved imitative banning unmarried, cohabiting couples from adopting in Arkansas.
