Written and directed by Lisa Cholodenko, The Kids Are All Right is proof that Cholodenko has something of a knack for gay themed cinema, with this third feature a definite crowd pleaser.

Starring Annette Bening and Julianne Moore as Nic and Jules, a lesbian couple with two teenage children, the story seems Laser, the 15 year old persuade this sister, 18 year old Joni to help him find their dad, who up until now has been nothing more than an anonymous sperm donor.

Played by Mark Ruffalo, that man is Paul, a restaurateur who not only has a love for organic food, but also for women. Add to this that he’s a college dropout with a motorbike and he’s as far from doctor Nic’s ideal father material as possible.

It is no wonder therefore that Nic isn’t too keen to contant him, however with much persuasion from Joni, she and Jules eventually let him into their family’s lives, something he relishes and they don’t…. well that is start with. When Paul invited Jules to design his garden there are tensions soon developing between Nic and Jules.
