Supreme Court Block Showing Of Proposition 8 Trial On Youtube Till At Least Wednesday

The Supreme Court has ruled that the first days of the trial on whether the gay marriage ban brought into being by Proposition 8 should be blocked from being broadcast on Youtube.

Scheduled to begin later today in the federal courts of San Francisco, Judge Vaugn Walker had last week ruled that whilst it couldn’t be broadcast on the television networks he would allow it to be shown on Youtube with a delay. The new ruling by the high court however overrules this, and will not allow footage to be broadcast until at least Wednesday to give the justices more time to consider the issue.

Opponents to the filming of the trial are against it believing it would act to intimidate witnesses, saying in their appeal that it “has the potential to become a media circus… The record is already replete with evidence showing that any publicizing of support for Prop. 8 has inevitably led to harassment, economic reprisal, threats, and even physical violence.”
