Richard Socarides, a former advisor to President Clinton has appeared on BBC World News where he spoke about the policy of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.

Discussing how he and gay rights groups had been angered by how President Obama had promised quick action in his Presidential election but had failed to deliver in his first year, Socarides attributed this to Obama’s desire to push through the health care reforms without distraction.

Saying that the announcement that is to be made by the Pentagon on how it plans to repeal DADT marks history in the making, Socarides went on to say that he believed once this law had been repealed that it would mark a point in American history that would see more equality for gays and lesbians, with gay marriage being the next fight that he believed could be easily be won as acceptance of the LGBT community in the United States continues to grow.
