Madonna has appeared on Ellen to not only inform the world that there is an re-occuring occurrence (her words not ours) of head lice in her house, but also speak at length about the issue of homophobic bullying and the high number of teenage gay suicides.
Saying she felt it was her duty to speak out because without the gay community she wouldn’t be where she was today, Madonna also spoke of her own feelings of being a misfit. Saying it was a lonely and alienating time she also went on to pay tribute to her gay ballet teacher who introduced her to others in the community that acted to show her not only being different wasn’t wrong, but that there were others there to support you.
Agreeing with Ellen that it is often those who feel different who end up achieving most in the end, Madonna also concluded by saying that not only do gay teens need to stay strong but that each of us needs to be aware of what impact we’re having on the situation by what we’re saying or perhaps more importantly not saying.
