Kelis Announces 4th Of July As Second Single From New Flesh Tone Album
Not satisfied with having a number one hit with “Acapella”, Kelis has announced she will be releasing a new single “4th of July” on June 8th (would have made for better marketing to do it on July 4th…) and that you’ll be able to pre-order the brand new album Flesh Tone from June 16th in preparation for it’s release on July 6th.
And if that wasn’t enough next week sees Kelis announce another stage in her return to the music scene – an upcoming US tour.
But before we get too carried away with all that let’s get back to the new single,“4th of July (Fireworks)”. Hitting the clubs this week, the mix of electro and trance is sure to make this a hit with even the most hardcore of clubbers, without putting everyone else off thanks to the addition of an old-school piano break to mix things up a bit.
Currently streaming on the I Am Kelis website, you can also check out Kelis performing it on “Later…with Jools Holland” below:
Available to pre-order from June 16th on iTunes, Fleshtone has been described by The New York Time as “one of her strongest records yet”, whilst NME gave it 8 out of 10 saying “Kelis. Genius. Pop Auteur. Credible diva. Welcome back”.
Talking about the album, recorded in her home studio, Kelis said:
“There’s a physicality behind it – it’s about blood, muscle, heart,”
“I was pregnant when I recorded 75 or 80 percent of this music. That’s why there’s such a feeling of freedom on it—you feel such confidence and sureness when this life is growing within you. So I started thinking, how do I portray this, and get people to feel how I felt? And that became a real driving force for me.”
The track listing for Flesh Tone is:
1. Intro
2. 22nd Century
3. 4th Of July (Fireworks)
4. Home
5. Acapella
6. Scream
7. Emancipate8. Brave
9. Song For The Baby
