Jersey Shore Show’s Ronnie Margo Apologises For His Homophobic Slurs

Ronnie Margo from the Jersey Shore show has apologised, via the social networking site Twitter, for the homophobic slurs he was seen directing at a man whilst out on a night out.  Calling the man a “f**king f**got” and “f**king queer”  before getting into a fight with him, Margo’s language has lead to criticism from gay rights groups, but also praise for MTV for making the decision not to show the footage, with Matthew Breen of The Advocate saying:

“MTV’s audience is young and impressionable, and MTV has a duty not to conflate hate speech with aspirational elements of reality TV. Because MTV cut out Ronnie’s hate speech, he has less opportunity to affect harm to young gay people by viewers who may choose to emulate him.”

Advertisers of the show have however acted to distance themselves from Margo’s behaviour with a company rep stating:

“Ronnie’s words are in no way acceptable. BeenVerified strongly believes that homophobic language or hateful language of any kind is never acceptable,”

Other stars of the show, as well as those behind the scenes are MTV have spoken out in defense of Margo saying that he isn’t homophobic, and that he has always treated the gay members of the MTV crew with respect.

Margo’s own apology was as followed (he frequently calls his fans “creepy”:

“I apologize to my fans, In the hear of the moment i said a lot of things i didn’t mean and i’m very sorry… i love my creepy fans..”
