Is President Obama Just An All Talk And No Action Man On DADT?
President Obama said change was going to happen. He said he was on our side. He said that DADT would be repealed.
President Obama definitely know what to say. What he doesn’t seem to know is how to take action.
In fact the current US President has acted to take so little action in relation to DADT that openly gay Rep. Barney Frank has felt the need to speak out about it, telling America Blog:
“His not being for it will give people an excuse to not vote for it. Thing is – we’ve done hate crimes. We do ENDA. It’s a big agenda all at once. At this point – the President’s refusal to call for repeal this year is a problem.”
And Frank is right, Obama’s lack of movement on the issue is problematic. If DADT, alongside ENDA , is going to have any chance of repeal in Obama’s first term then it needs to be well underway before November. If that dates passes and the House, as many are predicting is lost to the Republicans, then any chance of repeal is unlikely to occur for a number of years.
So come on President Obama, prove to us that you did mean those words of commitment to the LGBT community you gave as you fought to become President. Prove that State of the Union speech was more than just words and show us some action.
