FILM: Burlesque: The All Singing And Dancing Christina Aquilera And Cher Show
With both Christina Aguilera AND Cher starring in “Burlesque” this film definitely has two very strong elements to make it a hit with the gay community, but let’s be honest we’re not really that easy to please. If the storyline ain’t no good then we ain’t going to watching it. So what exactly is “Burlesque” offering us? Well that would be a rags to riches story which follows Ali (Christina Aguilera), a small-town girl with a big voice, who is trying to escape the hardship and uncertain future she has and instead, like the rest of the world wants to, swap it for stardom in LA.
And it looks like The Burlesque Lounge, a majestic but ailing theater that is home to an inspired musical revue, is the place to do it after Ali lands a job as a cocktail waitress from Tess (Cher), the club’s proprietor and headliner.
Cue Ali gaining the affections of Jack (Cam Gigandet), a bartender and fellow musician, finding a friendship with a featured dancer (Julianne Hough) committed to helping her and an enemy in a troubled, jealous performer (Kristen Bell) who wants to do anything but. And yes you’ve guessed it, it’s not long before Ali, with the help of sharp-witted stage manager (Stanley Tucci) and gender-bending host (Alan Cumming), moves from waitress to headline act with her stunning voice restores The Burlesque Lounge to its former glory. Well that is before the inevitable twist in the tale occurs when Eric Dane comes in and tries to throw a spanner in the works..
Destined to be one of those films that you’re going to love or hate, as Stuart Heritage of the Guardian highlights, the trailer doesn’t really leave you with much storyline to discover, but hey when you’ve got music, sparkly lights and gorgeous costumes who needs a story…
Burlesque is scheduled for release in the US on 24th November 2010, until then you can check out the latest updates at the official Burlesque movie site.
